"Teach the truth so that your teaching can't be criticized. Then those who oppose us will be ashamed and have nothing bad to say about us." Titus 2:8
What is the truth? Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me." John 14:6 The truth we should be teaching is Jesus Christ. Everything else is a lie.
Then what is Paul trying to get across to Titus, in this scripture? Clearly, by preaching the gospel we're going to have persecution from the world. We are promised to suffer many things for the sake of the gospel. Although with our suffering comes another promise; "If we suffer, we shall also reign with him. If we deny him, he also will deny us." 2 Tim 2:12
Paul was instructing Titus in church leadership. The entire book of Titus is excellent for instructing how to teach and encourage those that are already saved. It is a book about applying the scripture to our everyday lives. How I wish more church leaders would take a closer look at this book.
When our Pastors & Elders in the church preach Jesus, amazing things happen! People start getting saved! They get filled with the Holy Spirit! They get baptized! They get healed, delivered, they become new beings in Christ! They learn how to love God, love people & push back darkness! Revival breaks out! When this starts happening, those who oppose us (the religious crowd) will become ashamed of themselves and have nothing bad to say about us.
Oh how I wish that were true. I know they would have nothing true that was bad to say about us, but some people will always talk bad about us whether what they say is true or not. Still, that doesn't excuse us from doing what we're supposed to do, "Teach the Truth."
I thank God that He has placed me in a body of local believers where the Truth is taught regularly! Do you know Jesus?
