Doers or Hearers

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

Hebrews 10:24 NLT

This is a perfect scripture for me. It does everything all at the same time, motivates, convicts and encourages. At Frontline, where I attend church, our motto is; Love God, Love People, Push Back Darkness. (That's where I came up with this snazzy name for my blog.) :)
The Bible teaches us to be "doers of the word, and not hearers only..," James 1:22. What does that mean? It's easy for me to go to church or a study group once a week or whatever, and get fat and lazy by feeding on the word. The problem is, just like over-indulging with food, when all we do is listen we get lazy. The reason the Dead Sea is dead, is because the water flows in but doesn't flow out. It's the same principal. In order to stay fresh and on fire, we have to give freely what's been freely given to us, love, acceptance, forgiveness. Allow the Holy Spirit to flow through you.
It isn't always easy to do this. It takes faith and obedience. However, it's worth it!!! So how do we motivate each other towards acts of love and good works? By example is one way. I mean it would be hard to encourage someone to do something we don't do ourselves, right? Also, we could get together with our study group members and put together some type of community outreach. There are a lot of needs in every community, it just takes a little effort to reach out.
Let me encourage you to do something nice for someone today! It will make you feel as good or better than the one you help. One thing though, be sure and let the ones you serve know you're doing it because you love Jesus, otherwise it's just a nice thing to do. Allow your good works to be a witness to the lost.
