"Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done." Philippians 4:6, NLT
In today's fast paced society, one of the biggest health issues we face, is stress. We stress about finances. We stress about deadlines, We stress about our children, our education, our transportation. The list is endless! You name it, and someone is stressing on it. When I was a kid, my Grandmother used to carry around a "worry rock" in her pocket. (for those of you who are too young to know what a worry rock is, be thankful for your youth.., it's fleeting) Came on, a worry rock? Really?
The main thing that causes stress, is worry! Jesus said to be anxious over nothing, that no man can add even one inch to his height by worrying about it. We as humans become addicted to the stupidest things. I know people who are comfortable in their misery and you couldn't blow them out of it with a stick of dynamite. The particular misery I'm referring to, is worry. They worry about everything you could imagine. They worry to the point it makes them sick, they know its making them sick, yet they refuse to stop because they become comfortable in their own sickness. That's just sad.
I was at a fund raiser for Wellington Orphanage last Sunday night. It was a huge success, $ was raised and children received sponsorship. Most importantly God was glorified. As I looked upon the crowd, I left a little disappointed. I noticed several there that are rich and don't even know it. These individuals could do so much to help orphans and never even miss it, but due to worrying about their own needs, they couldn't see the need they could fill. As I was reading my Bible this morning, this verse jumped off the page at me, and I wanted to share it;
"Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything." Prov. 11:24
Don't be so overcome by fear or worry, that you lose everything. Trust that God has you, he will always meet your need. I'm not spouting off prosperity, I'm just saying that we should never turn our back on those less fortunate than us because we are afraid. We should never leave a child hungry, if we have food to spare. Jesus left us with an obligation to care for the poor, the widow, and the orphan.
