Blessings or Cursings?

"A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare." Proverbs 15:1, NLT

Throughout Proverbs, we are encouraged to use wisdom and good judgment, especially when dealing with other people. One of the hardest lessons I have ever had to learn is when to keep my mouth shut. I am one of those kind of people who is quick to say whatever comes into my head, and worry about the consequences later.
James taught on the dangers of not controlling your tongue;
"We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in it's mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches.
But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire. And the tongue is a flame of fire. It is a whole world of wickedness, corrupting your entire body. It can set your whole life on fire, for it is set on fire by hell itself.
People can tame all kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and fish, but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. Surely my brothers and sisters this is not right!!" James 3:3-10 NLT
So we can see how a slick answer can cause a fight. On the other hand, gentle words bring healing.
"Kind words are like honey - sweet to the soul and healthy for the body." Prov. 16:24
Let us choose our words carefully, speak blessings into the lives of those we love and to those who are unkind to us. Jesus said, "God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God." Matt. 5:9
