Really God? Really!

You know, being a Christian is not always peaches and cream. Some days are really a drag and I feel like throwing in the towel and saying I can't do this anymore. Today is one of those days!

I have been pouring into the lives of two young men. They are brothers and every time I think progress is being made, it all blows up. I want to scream at them but instead I try to overlook the problem. I try to extend grace, and all I really end up doing is enabling them to continue in their mistakes, while becoming frustrated myself.

The biggest problem I have, is one of my favorite verses. 1st Peter 4:8,9 says "Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay."

So I've opened my house to these two youngsters, and I feel like they are completely disrespecting me. The oldest one has let his girl friend who he has been with for several years start staying here, and they spend every dime they get on cigarettes, liquor, and drugs. If they get busted with drugs in my house I will go to the penitentiary on a parole revocation. So, where does my respnsibilty as a Christian end. They go to church with me, and say they want to change their lives but they don't seem to put forth any effort. I keep thinking the Holy Spirit will get their attention, that they will get saved, that they will do the right thing.

God, how do I help these guys? Do I allow them to continue staying in my house, or do I ask them to kick rocks? I don't have the answer to that question yet, but I do know this,

"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." Romans 8:28

God is good all the time. He will work this out according to his great pleasure, and glory will be brought to his name because of it. I trust him completely. I only want his will to be done in this circumstance and in my life.

  1. Getting them involved in the church ministries may help. Give them more than enough opportunities to listen to the Word through Bible studies and the like. Youth love music. Get them involved in activities they can enjoy. But in all these it is always the Holy Spirit who does the work. I'm with you in prayers. God bless you more!
