Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15, NLT
Because God will examine what kind of workers we have been for him, we should build our lives on his Word and build his Word into our lives—it alone tells us how to live for him and serve him. Believers who ignore the Bible will certainly be ashamed at the judgment.
Consistent and diligent study of God’s Word is vital; otherwise, we will be lulled into neglecting God and our true purpose for living.
One of the hard things to accomplish, is finding enough time to read our Bible each day. The phone rings, the kids are fussing, or hundreds of other things just seem to come up when we try to get into the word. Recognize this for what it is, Spiritual Warfare. Discipline yourself to take 15 minutes in the morning to read your Bible and pray. As you get your flesh used to submitting to this harsh and unusual behavior, it will get easier and before you know it 15 minutes won't seem like enough time. You will catch yourself spending 20, 25, 30, maybe as much as 45 minutes to read and pray. On days I am actually late and don't have the time to read, my day always seems boring and long. If I've read a couple of chapters from the Old Testament and at least one chapter from the New Testament, I feel like I'm on top of the world!!! All charged up so to speak.
Many times we don't read our Bible because we just don't know where to start. It can be very intimidating, especially to a new Christian. If you are new to the Word of God, let me suggest you begin your journey in the Book of John. Here Jesus declares who he is openly and completely. I would try to read at least one chapter a day.
Also, as a new Christian you should read a chapter from Psalms. David wrote a large percentage of the Psalms, and here he has left many examples of how to pray, and how to worship. Get into the Psalms, I guarantee you will fall in love with them!
Finally, close your daily reading time with Proverbs. All of the wisdom of Solomon can be found here. A very practical guide to applying God to our daily routine. One of the things I really like about Proverbs, is there are 31 of them, you can read a different one every day of the month. If today is November 24th, I would read Proverbs chapter 24. Cool huh?
Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus? If not, but you know the Lord has been dealing with your heart, then please contact one of the churches on this page. Just simply click on their link. Don't be shy or afraid, there are people who are waiting to pray with you right now! The Bible teaches that today is the day of salvation, because we may not have tomorrow.
