Praising the Lord

Therefore, let us offer through Jesus a continual sacrifice of praise to God, proclaiming our allegiance to his name.

Hebrews 13:15 NLT

Here's a hard one! I mean I love the Lord, and nothing is better than praise & worship! It's during praise & worship, where I feel most connected to God. I'm just not sure how to stay in an attitude of praise continually. It's kind of like praying without ceasing, very hard for me to do when my flesh wants to cuss out bad drivers on the way to work. Really? Really! Come on, I know I'm not the only person who has little patience for lousy drivers.
I think the point here, is through praise we proclaim our allegiance to the name of the Lord. This is two fold, not only do we affirm our faith to the world, we confirm our faith to ourselves. It's not easy to keep an attitude of praise continually, that's why the writer calls it a sacrifice. It is especially difficult during times of trial of suffering, but it's during these times when God shows up in the most dramatic ways! Look at the Book of Acts, the apostles were locked up in a dungeon. It was cold and damp, they were more than likely hungry, they were chained and bound. That's some pretty bad circumstances. What did they do, began singing songs at midnight. They began to praise & worship Jesus and the Holy Spirit set them free!! How awesome is that?!!
I'm not suggesting that we praise God for what he can or will do, let's praise Him just for who He is. He alone is worthy of all praise!!
One of the things that help me stay in the right frame of mind, is music. I always have Christian music on. Usually I'm listening to my Ipod, but in the car I am tuned to Air1. They are awesome, but also K-Love does a good job as well. It's a lot harder for me to cuss out the other drivers on the road when I'm singing along with one of my favorite Christian artists. :)
