"I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments."
Psalm 119:45, NLT
This is a very hard scripture for me to really expound upon. I understand what the psalmist was trying say, but since Jesus hadn't yet come to earth and paid our debt, Ezra the priest (that is who many believe wrote this particular psalm,) had to rely upon his obedience and faith, to experience the type of freedom he was proclaiming. Today, as a Christian, our freedom comes from Christ's obedience. Of course we too are called to live a righteous life. The problem is that without Jesus, that's not really possible. The Bible teaches that our righteousness is like that of dirty rags, in God's sight. Therefore on our own, we can't experience true freedom, and without the leading of the Holy Spirit, we wouldn't even be able to surrender our lives to Christ.
In and of ourselves, we are not only hopeless, but we're really helpless as well. Everything we can be has to come from Christ. Otherwise we would have the right to boast.
That's why the scripture says,"by grace we are saved through faith not by works, lest any man should boast."
If you would like to experience true freedom, ask Jesus to reveal himself to you. Repent of your sin. (turn away from it) Ask him to forgive your sin and surrender yourself to his authority. Allow him to be Lord of your life. Read your Bible daily and spend time in prayer. Prayer is simply talking to God. Find a church that believes and teaches the Bible. Get baptized. Ask the Lord to fill you with His Holy Spirit.
This is where true freedom comes from. There is nothing else like it!
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised!!!!
